Welcome to the Romney Marsh Chilli Company.

Here we are at the start of our second year

Over the winter we have erected a 2nd Poly-Tunnel which dramatically increases our ability to grow a greater number of plants. This has also given us the opportunity to expand and alter the varieties, while increasing the number of popular chilli’s such as Jalapeno, Habanero & Tepin.

We also plan to increase our range of sauces, Oils and other products.

Over the last couple of months we have acquired a 3rd poly-tunnel , the only problem being that we no longer have the space to erect it therefore the search is on to find some land and establish the Farm proper, enabling us to work towards running it full time and getting out of the rat-race.

We have been able to come to a fantastic agreement with the top blokes at www.thechileman.org to link our list of varieties to their huge database (over 3600 varieties listed) therefore giving you better descriptions and information on the chillies available and also access to one of the biggest databases in the world.

We are growing these for two reasons the first is for ingredients of some new sauces that we will be selling this year and the second is that when we did our first (and only so far) Farmers Market many people commented and were surprised at the many different kinds of chilli there were (and we were only selling a few varieties) so we are attempting grow a wider variety of shapes colours and sizes to surprise people even further.

As an addition we are also growing Ornamental chillies. These are smaller plants which are grown in pots and can be kept indoors on window sills or in sunny spots. They produce a large number of multi-Coloured fruits which are very attractive and edible as well.

Tomatoes

We are expanding our interest a bit and are attempting to grow a small selection of Tomatoes. The more we have started to learn about chillies has led us on to learning more about horticulture, gardening and surprised us about the many different breeds of vegetables that are available. We were typical of many people living on outskirts of London (or any big city) that we would do our shopping at the local (huge) supermarket and pretty much just pick what fruit and veg was on sale without really looking at what it was and not knowing much at all. Since our move to the country and the start of the Chilli Farm we have learned so much.

We are starting with 11 varieties of tomato some of which are well known and the majority which are called heritage varieties. They are known as this due to the seeds coming from varieties that were grown many years ago and have over the years fallen from favor for the hardier and larger croppers. This is the list of the varieties we are growing:

Box Car Willie

Brandywine

Pink Ping Pong

Alaska

Russian Big Roma

Ace 55

Sophies Choice

Anns Sugar

Moneymaker

F1 Sweet Million

Sunset Red Horizon
